Photoshop doesn't consider png with alpha a valid format. Therefore, it is suggested that tga files be used. Edit: This may only apply to early versions of Photoshop. WitrynaAnother vote for TGA format over PNG, at least for game development use. Shaders typically don't work well with PNG since they usually need alpha as a separate channel. TGA gives you this. You can also use RLE compression for TGA which is a lossless compression. Basically blank or solid-color areas get compressed a lot. WitrynaPNG has RGBA but the alpha channel is either stored as a separate channel (like TGA) or as a transparency amount. Some PNG compressions try to lower the file size by filling areas which are black in the alpha channel with block colour. So if this method is used, the colour data in the RGB channels is lost.
